Taxonomic coverage

The taxonomical structure of the Bryological collection YSU is represented by 724 species, 230 genera, and 90 families. The majority of the specimens belong to Bryophyta (79%), less to Marchantiophyta (30%). Five classes represented by Bryopsida (53%), Jungermanniopsida (28%), Sphagnopsida (16%), Marchantiopsida and Andreaeopsida (2%) by number of specimens.

A total of 28 orders are represented, with majority specimens from Jungermanniales (26%), Hypnales (21%), Sphagnales (16%), Bryales (13%) and Dicranales (10%), and other 23 orders less represented.

The specimens of Bryological collection YSU belong to 90 families, with majority (16%) from Sphagnaceae, followed by Amblystegiaceae (10%), Dicranaceae (8%), with the rest of families representing less than 5% of specimens each.

The collection includes 209 genera, notably being Sphagnum (1262 specimens), Dicranum (392 specimens), Lophozia (259), Scapania (271), Pohlia (205), Bryum (185), Brachythecium (126), Scorpidium (123), Polytrichum (115), Sciuro-hypnum (105), other genera represented by less than 100 specimens.
